CYO - Fall - Cross Country

School is starting and Fall is coming -- which means it’s also time for Cross Country season. We have a great season planned and will be working out jointly with the CYO Club team this year.

Cross Country season always starts quickly with the first meet in September and this season is starting early with the first meet coming up this weekend, Saturday, September 14th with the first race at 3pm. In total there will be about 7-8 races from September through November (see list below, but there might be some changes).

Sorry for the late notice on the first meet, but just got the schedule this week.

This program is for kids from grades K-8. Running is meant to be fun for kids and we encourage the kids to enjoy themselves. We have some competitive runners but also kids just getting started. It’s is something all kids can do, so we encourage you to come out and try. We welcome kids of all ability and experience levels. The race distance is based on grade:

    Grades K-2: 400 meters

    Grades 3-5: 1500 meters

    Grades 6-8: 2000 meters

We are targeting to have 3 practices a week with meets on the weekend -- either Saturday or Sunday depending on the week (see below). Practices will be held on Monday (5:30-6:15), Wednesday (5:30-6:30) and Friday (5;30-6:30). Mondays will be likely on the trails around New Rochelle with Wednesdays and Fridays on North Ave at the High School. Please do not worry if you can only make 1 or 2 a week. That is fine, but we added a light Friday practice for those that have other activities during the week.

We will be training jointly with the CYO Club and Transfiguration teams.  Special thanks to Coach Stefan for that.

For those that did track last year, the practices will be similar but we will have the kids run more distance vs. drills. The meets are also MUCH shorter. They start on time and the races go off quickly, but they also wrap quickly with the whole meet taking less than an hour.
